SAN DIEGO - Kathi Diamant was named on-air
fundraising anchor for KPBS.
Diamant is a familiar face to many San Diegans. She co-hosted
KFMB TV's Sun Up San Diego from 1983 to 1990. She also is a strong
supporter of KPBS, having volunteered for membership campaigns
since 1997.
"I'm very pleased to have Kathi on our team," says
KPBS General Manager Doug Myrland. Her broadcast experience coupled
with her on-going support and involvement with KPBS made her
the perfect choice."
And Diamant says she is looking forward to her new job at KPBS. "Having
worked in commercial television, I deeply appreciate the vital
role KPBS plays in providing essential programming that keeps
San Diego culturally alive and our viewers connected and well-informed," says
Diamant.
In addition to her work in broadcasting, Diamant has written
extensively for newspapers and magazines. Shes also an author,
playwright, actor, community activist and adjunct professor at
SDSU. She recently earned the Theodor Geisel Award ("The
Best of the Best") from the San Diego Book Awards Association
for her biography, Kafkas Last Love: The Mystery of Dora Diamant.
KPBS, 89.5 FM and TV Channel 15/Cable 11, is a broadcast service
of San Diego State University, serving the region with TV, radio
and Internet content that is educational as well as entertaining
and free of commercial interruption.
Membership campaigns play a vital role in bringing public television
and radio to San Diegans: close to 40 percent of the total operating
budget for KPBS Radio and Television comes from member donations.
