KPBS NAMES NEW FUNDRAISING ANCHOR (Kathi Diamant)

SAN DIEGO - Kathi Diamant was named on-air fundraising anchor for KPBS.

Diamant is a familiar face to many San Diegans. She co-hosted KFMB TV's Sun Up San Diego from 1983 to 1990. She also is a strong supporter of KPBS, having volunteered for membership campaigns since 1997.

"I'm very pleased to have Kathi on our team," says KPBS General Manager Doug Myrland. Her broadcast experience coupled with her on-going support and involvement with KPBS made her the perfect choice."

And Diamant says she is looking forward to her new job at KPBS. "Having worked in commercial television, I deeply appreciate the vital role KPBS plays in providing essential programming that keeps San Diego culturally alive and our viewers connected and well-informed," says Diamant.

In addition to her work in broadcasting, Diamant has written extensively for newspapers and magazines. Shes also an author, playwright, actor, community activist and adjunct professor at SDSU. She recently earned the Theodor Geisel Award ("The Best of the Best") from the San Diego Book Awards Association for her biography, Kafkas Last Love: The Mystery of Dora Diamant.

KPBS, 89.5 FM and TV Channel 15/Cable 11, is a broadcast service of San Diego State University, serving the region with TV, radio and Internet content that is educational as well as entertaining and free of commercial interruption.

Membership campaigns play a vital role in bringing public television and radio to San Diegans: close to 40 percent of the total operating budget for KPBS Radio and Television comes from member donations.
